Friends of Toloa

A NZ based organisation called Friends of Toloa, which includes Her Royal Highness Princess Mele Siu’ilikutapu, Dr Glenn Doherty, Fifita McCready, Ika Vea, Malu Vea, Lady Ma’asi and Mele Vaka, fundraised $NZD25000 to set up a medical centre at Tupou Methodist College at Toloa in Tonga. The funds enabled them to fill up a shipping container full of medical equipment in Auckland to send to Tonga. They also received beds, consumables from a hospital in Blenheim, medical supplies from Medical Aid Abroad administered by Auckland District Health Board, Fifita McCready co-ordinated the fit out of the new Medical Centre. They were also able to purchase a washing machine and fridge. The former health centre was renovated in time for Tupou College’s 150 years Toloa celebrations.

Dr Doherty says THS staff have a relationship with the school over the years providing health promotion around

Rheumatic Fever and other medical aid as part of the Society’s Tongan Outreach Project. Fifita McCready was also a former pupil of the school.
