Ths Ceo and Medical Director Recognised
The 2015 Alliance Health Achievement Awards saw The Tongan Health Society again feature with it being chosen for the Consistent High Performance and Service to the Community Award.
It highlighted a successful and record year operationally and financially for the organisation and CEO and Medical Director Dr Glenn Doherty, who was also one of four finalists in the AUT Faculty of Business andLaw Excellence in Business Support Awards.
The Awards, which have been running for a decade, are the only national performance measure for New Zealand business support organisations. Glenn became the first and only finalist from the medical profession and health sector to feature in all categories and the leadership category for which he
was nominated specifically.
AUT Business Awards assessors said his unique combination of medical professional and disciplined business leader were key ingredients for his success.
He received honours of the Community Service Medal by the Board of the Royal New Zealand College of General Practitioners (RNZCGP) alongside Dr Glennis Mafi. The Board recognised their work in
New Zealand and Tonga, where Glenn has worked for the past 10 years and has now set up the Outreach Project.
Dr Mafi has been working in Tonga for 17 years, setting up and running the Village Mission Clinic in Ha’ateiho.
Glenn was also appointed to the Royal New Zealand College of General Practitioners’ Education Advisory Board and the National Youth and Child Health Clinic Advisory Board for the Paediatric Society of New Zealand.
He is an RNZCGP teacher for GP Registrars who are completing their fellowship training, as well as being school doctor for Kelston Boys High School for the last 12 years. Tongan Health Society Inc Langimalie Integrated Family Health Centre.
